Hostelling International
Hostelling International is a worldwide network of Not-for-Profit Youth Hostel Associations
Hostelling International (HI) is a charity that manages a federation of not-for-profit youth hostel associations. Our Youth Hostel Associations provide a network of hostels in more than 80 countries.
We believe that exploration and travel lead to a better understanding of other cultures, and in turn that creates a peaceful, smarter, and more tolerant world. This is and has been our mission for almost 100 years.
We operate ‘for good and not-for-profit’ which means your stay should be cheaper while contributing to something amazing — any surplus of funds is reinvested in affordable hostelling and not shareholders.
Hostelling International have member organisations who are known as ‘YHA’ (Youth Hostel Association’) in around 20 different countries and some of the larger organisations exist in: England and Wales called ‘YHA England & Wales’, Australia called ‘YHA Australia’, New Zealand called ‘YHA New Zealand’, China called ‘YHA China’, Taiwan called ‘Taiwan YHA’, Pakistan named ‘Pakistan YHA’.
Across all the organisations who operate using the YHA name, we have over 700 youth hostels spread across around 600 cities. Some of the most popular YHA hostels are located in cities like London, Oxford, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Hong Kong.
All of the Youth Hostel Associations operate as a not-for-profit organisation with the aim to help young people of limited means. You can find the contact details of your nearest yha organisation by visiting our network page or you can find a specific YHA hostel by searching our site for the city it exists in. (e.g. YHA London)
In some countries, organisation have changed their names hence you won’t find a YHA USA or YHA Canada for example. They are known as HI USA and HI Canada.
